Wamogo Tournament Results

We held our first tournament on January 31 at Wamogo Middle School in Litchfield!  Ten schools and 103 debaters participated in three rounds of Parliamentary-style debate on the motion:

This House believes that zoos do more harm than good.

We’d like to thank:

  • Wamogo Middle School and Coach Scott Brady for being our gracious hosts.
  • The Greenwich Branch of the English-Speaking Union of the United States for donating trophies.
  • The twelve Connecticut Debate Association high school debaters who volunteered as judges.
  • Jen Posner for her work coordinating the event and the needed materials.

Trophies were awarded to the top three teams and the top three speakers.  Two additional teams were undefeated and are also listed here:

  • First Place Team:  Immaculate, Danbury (Haven Hunt and Camden Archambeau)
  • Second Place Team:  St. Luke’s, New Canaan (Allie Vogel, Amelie Warneryd, Nicole Mulleady)
  • Third Place Team:  Eastern, Greenwich (Melinda Yang, Catherine Yang, Monique Nikolov)
  • Fourth PlaceTeam:  Middlesex, Darien (Skyler Bennett,Shriya Desai and Catherine O’Connor)
  • Fifth Place Team:  Middlesex, Darien (Eva Criscuolo, Nisha Nalawade and Nadejda Radoulov)

The speaker award winners are:

  • First Place Speaker:  Haven Hunt, Immaculate, Danbury
  • Second Place Speaker:  Maisie Smith, Ethel Walker, Simsbury
  • Third Place Speaker:  Jordan Owens, Smith, Glastonbury

January 24 Tournament Cancelled

The January 24 tournament at Eastern Middle School in Greenwich is cancelled due to the expected snow storm.

Everyone is invited to attend the January 31 tournament at Wamogo Middle School in Greenwich.  The long-term forecast is currently “sunny.”

If you already registered for CTMSDL January 24 at Eastern, simply go back into tabroom.com and re-register for CTMSDL January 31 at Wamogo.

January 24 and 31 Tournament Invitation

On behalf of Bruce Johnson, Coach of Eastern Middle School in Greenwich, and Scott Brady, Coach of Wamogo Middle School in Litchfield, I would like to invite you to our first competitive tournaments at the end of the month.  There will be one open division of debate.

The motion, previously announced, is:

This House believes that zoos do more harm than good.

You register through the www.tabroom.com, a free website for the debate community.  We will use this system for all our events.  Download our tabroom.com Instructions for more information.

On tabroom.com the tournament names are “CTMSDL January 24” and “CTMSDL January 31”.

The tournament schedule will include a short workshop in the morning and three rounds of debate:

9:30-10AM registration
10-10:30AM workshops
10:45-11:30AM round 1
11:30-12:15PM round 2
12:15-12:45PM lunch
12:45-1:30PM round 3
1:30-2:00PM awards
2:00PM departure

We will use the standard middle school parliamentary debate format with three debaters on each team, five minute constructive speeches and three minute rebuttals.  For more information go to our website, http://ctmsdebate.org .
