January 30 Tournament at Hamden Hall

We are pleased to announce that we will hold our winter CT Middle School Debate League tournament on Saturday, January 30th, 2016, from 9:30 am — 3:00 pm at Hamden Hall Country School, 1108 Whitney Avenue, Hamden. We owe a huge thank you to Hamden Hall and Coach Beth Richter for graciously agreeing to host us on short notice.

Debaters should come prepared to both propose and oppose the motion they were scheduled to debate yesterday:

This House believes that the United States should curtail free speech rights in order to combat terrorism.

The new tournament name on tabroom.com is CTMSDL Jan 30.  If you registered for the Jan 23 tournament, you should find your information in the new tournament and you should edit teams and judges as necessary.  Please contact us if you have any trouble registering on tabroom.com.  Remember that we need schools to register 1 judge per every 6 debaters.  Observers are welcome and do not need to register.  Registration will close at 6 pm on Friday, January 29.  Attached are instructions for judges and timers.  Please refer to our website, ctmsdebate.org, and the CTMSDL Handbook for information on our format and rules.

The following are available for download:

Please note that tickets for pizza and drinks will be sold between 9:30 and 10:00 am, not during lunchtime.  Thanks to our sponsor, the English Speaking Union, Greenwich Branch, we will provide judges with pizza and drinks.

Please respond  email us to let us know if you plan to attend so we can recruit enough High School debaters to judge.  (You may change your mind before tournament day!)

We hope to see you on the 30th in Hamden.  Please email with questions or comments.
