On behalf of Smith Middle School in Glastonbury and Coach John Rook, the Connecticut Middle School Debate League invites you to compete in our next tournament, on Saturday, April 30, 2016 from 9:30 am — 3:00 pm.
Debaters should come prepared to both propose and oppose the motion:
This House would provide a path to citizenship for immigrants living illegally in the US.
The following items are available for download:
- the full invitation, with directions for registering for the event on tabroom.com, the day’s schedule, and information about teams’ judging burdens and lunch;
- the CTMSDL Handbook, with information on format and rules;
- Instructions for Judges;
- Timer’s Instructions.
Registration opens on tabroom.com on April 14. There is no cap on the number of teams a school may enter. Observers are welcome and do not need to register. Registration will not close until the tournament begins so you may make changes to your entries on Saturday morning, if needed.
Please note that tickets for pizza and drinks will be sold between 9:30 and 10:00 am, not during lunchtime. Please let me know if you have any debaters who would prefer gluten-free pizza. Thanks to our sponsor, the English Speaking Union, Greenwich Branch, we will provide judges with pizza and drinks.
Please email to let us know if you plan to attend so we can recruit enough High School debaters to judge. (You may change your mind before tournament day!)
We look forward to seeing many of you again on the 30th.
