Sponsored by the English Speaking Union, Greenwich Branch
On behalf of Smith Middle School and Coach John Rook, The Connecticut Middle School Debate League invites you to our season-opening Novice Level Scrimmage and Open Level Tournament.
Novice and Open Level debaters will debate on both sides of the prep-ahead motion:
This House would make voting compulsory. Voting must be defined as voting in U.S. local, state, and / or federal elections. Voting may NOT be defined, for example, as voting in school class officer elections, or voting in other countries.
During Round 3, Open Level debaters will debate a different motion extemporaneously, as explained in the Handbook on pages 3-4.
Please review the brand new June 2024 version of our Handbook for information on the format and rules. It is up to coaches to decide which category (Novice or Open) is appropriate for each of their teams (see page 5 of the Handbook).
Coaches should register on Tabroom.com for the event CTMSDLOct26. (Tabroom Instructions) There is no cap on the number of teams a school may enter.
Coaches should register one judge per every 2 teams entered. Coaches should make sure their judges understand the information in the Judges’ Instructions and the Handbook prior to the event. Observers are welcome.
