October 19, 2019 Scrimmage Invitation

Saturday, October 19, 2019, 9:30 am — 3:00 pm

On behalf of Bethel Middle School and Coach Cathy Emerick, The Connecticut Middle School Debate League invites you to our season-opening scrimmage.

New and returning debaters will debate two rounds, one on each side of the motion:

This House supports restitution of cultural objects.

Observers are welcome.

Please review the July, 2019 version of the CTMSDL Handbook for information on the format and rules:  https://ctmsdebate.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/CTMSDL-Handbook-July-2019.pdf  This season we will have Novice and Open divisions at the scrimmage and all tournaments.  It is up to coaches to decide which category is appropriate for each of their debaters.  Please read more on page 4 of the Handbook.

Coaches should register on Tabroom.com for the event CTMSDLOct19.  Please find instructions on ctmsdebate.org.  There is no cap on the number of teams a school may enter.  Bethel can accommodate 94 teams total.  Coaches should also register one judge per every 2 teams entered.  Coaches should make sure their judges understand the information in our Judges’ Instructions and the Handbook prior to the scrimmage.

The day’s schedule will be as follows:

Welcome & Demo Debate Varsity High School Debaters 10:00 – 11:00
Round 1 11:15 – 12:00
Lunch 12:00 – 12:30
Workshops for Debaters & Judges 12:30 – 1:45
Round 2 2:00 – 2:45
Debrief 2:45 – 3:00
Departure 3:00

Debaters may pack their lunches or buy tickets for pizza and drinks when they arrive. Pizza will be $2 per slice and cans of lemonade will be $1 each. BYO water bottles. Coffee and lunch will be provided for judges. Questions or comments? Please email Jen Posner: jen.posner@ctmsdebate.org.
