December 14, 2019 Results & Announcement of January 25, 2020 Motion

On December 14, 2019, 246 Middle-schoolers from 22 Connecticut schools came together at Smith Middle School in Glastonbury to debate the motion: This House regrets the worldwide proliferation of surveillance cameras, in the CT Middle School Debate League’s first tournament of the season.  Proposition prevailed in 49.2% of the debates.
The final round was won by Middlebrook Middle School’s team of Yasmin Athulathmudali, Grace Biondo, and Anagha Khisti on Opposition.  Jessica Mulligan from Westfield Academy was the top speaker.  Results can be found on Tabroom.com. (Click on the Results tab, then CTMSDLDec14 under Tournament.)
If you are missing a ballot, please email me and I’ll send you a copy.
If you have any photos the CT Association of Schools may send to school principals in CT, please send those to me ASAP.
We are so grateful for the time and effort so many people put into running these events: Thank you to the English Speaking Union, Greenwich Branch for sponsoring the League, to John Rook and Antoinette Kisluk and their Smith team for hosting, to our coaches who put so much time and energy to prepping, running workshops, and judging, to Everett Rutan, Ashish Kale, Jennifer Hunt, and Garrett Flynn for tabbing, and to the High School debaters and parents who judged.
Our next tournament will be held at Middlebrook Middle School in Wilton on Saturday, January 25.  We’ll debate the motion: This House would require corporate boards to have women members.
As always, please send me your questions, concerns and suggestions.
Happy Holidays!  Jen
Jen Posner, President, CT Middle School Debate League, 203-984-4902
