On behalf of Smith Middle School and coach John Rook, the Connecticut Middle School Debate League invites you to the first tournament of the season.  Debaters who will compete should research the topic: This House regrets the worldwide proliferation of surveillance cameras.

Please refer to the updated CTMSDL Handbook for information on our format and rules. READ ABOUT NOVICE & OPEN CATEGORIES – Coaches decide which category to enter teams in.  The top 5 Open teams and speakers will receive awards.  Novice and open teams that go 3-0 will receive pins.

Coaches should register their debaters through tabroom.com.  Download our tabroom.com Instructions for more information.  On tabroom.com the event name is “CTMSDL Dec 14.”  There is no cap on the number of teams each school may enter.

Coaches should register one judge per every 2 teams.  Schools only bringing 1 team should register 1 judge.

Coaches should make sure their judges understand the information in the CTMSDL Handbook and our Judges’ Instructions.  We’ll hold a judges’ workshop at the tournament.  Coaches are encouraged to bring volunteer timers.

The day’s schedule will be as follows:

Arrival & Registration in Cafeterias   9:30 – 10:00
Workshops for Debaters, and Judges & Timers  10:00 – 11:00
Round 1  11:15 – 12:00
Round 2  12:00 – 12:45
Lunch  12:45 – 1:30
Round 3  1:30 – 2:15
Debate Game in Auditorium  2:15 – 2:45
Final Round in Auditorium  2:45 – 3:30
Awards & Departure  3:30 – 3:45

Debaters may pack their lunches or buy tickets for pizza and drinks between 9:30 & 10 am.  Pizza = $2/ slice and lemonade = $1.  Coffee and lunch will be provided for judges.  BYO H2O!
