Zoom & Tabroom Information for October 24, 2020 Scrimmage

  1. All judges must have a free Tabroom account and download free Zoom software on their computer or phone or tablet. Click here to sign up for a free Tabroom account.  Click here to sign up for a free Zoom account.
  2. Debaters must have Zoom installed on their devices.  Debaters may have Tabroom accounts if they want to receive announcements about pairings and if they want to read their ballots online.
  3. Debaters and judges should use headphones with microphones if there will be any background noise at their location.
  4. For teams that need it, we’ll schedule practice Zoom meetings the week before the tournament to test everyone’s ability to join the meeting, to mute and unmute their microphones, and to troubleshoot audio problems.
  5.  We’ll send the invitation to the scrimmage Zoom meeting to coaches and judges the day before the tournament.
  6. We’ll have 2 time periods to enter the Zoom meeting: 8:30 am for new judges, and between 9:00 am and 9:45 am for debaters and coaches and observers.
  7. After the demo debate, Tabroom pairings for Round 1 will be emailed and texted to judges and posted in a Google Doc that can be accessed through Chat.
  8. Judges and debaters will be assigned to Breakout Zoom rooms and they will then click on the invitation to join Breakout Room.
  9. In Breakout Rooms, Judges will make sure everyone can hear each other clearly.
  10. Judges pull up their online ballots in Tabroom and click Start Round.
  11. Debaters should stay seated and say “POC” or “POI” or “POO” when they want to ask one of those.
  12. If someone has technical difficulty during the round and can’t hear or has a lag, the judge can stop the debate and resume when the issue is resolved.  Judges can click “Ask for help” and a tournament administrator will join the round.  If someone’s audio cuts out, they can click to join by phone audio.  That will give them phone numbers to call (any of the supplied numbers will work).
  13. After the round, judges should give oral feedback then fill out and submit an online ballot.
  14. After a lunch break, students will be sent to Breakout Rooms to review the Demo Debate and their first round with a Workshop Leader.
  15. At 2 pm everyone will be sent to new Breakout Rooms for Round 2.
  16. We’ll finish together in the Main Meeting to debrief.
