Feb 12, 2022 Results & Next Topic

On Saturday, February 12, 2022, 227 Middle School debaters from the following 17 schools combined into 24 Novice and 45 Open teams and debated the motion: This House regrets the rise of space tourism: 


Stamford schools coached by AITE, Amity Orange & Bethany, Bethel, Hamden Hall, Irving A. Robbins, Memorial, Middlebrook, Ridgefield Public Schools, Seymour, Smith, St. Luke’s School, Strong, The Hive, Timothy Edwards, Torrington, Western Greenwich, Westfield Academy

53 High School debaters and parents volunteered to judge, making the day possible.

Five Novice teams from Memorial, Middlebrook, The Hive, and Smith won all three of their rounds.

Six Open teams from Middlebrook, St. Luke’s, Bethel, and Amity won all three of their rounds.

The Amity team of Fan, Chen & Mejnartowicz won the Final Round on Opposition over the Middlebrook team of Heckle, Sullivan & Sullivan on Proposition.

Luke Lamour from Amity was the highest scoring Open level speaker of the day.

Special thanks go to all of our indefatigable coaches, as well as Jennifer Hunt, Everett Rutan, Josephine Shea, Aidan Shea, Akshaj Ganta, Rachel Zhang, Anthony Chen, Jake Cieniawa and Marcus Palumbo.

The CTMSDL’s next tournament will be held virtually on April 2, 2022.  The topic will be: The House would eliminate school Gifted and Talented programs.  Here’s an article that provides some background information.  As always, you are free to use this or not and research should not be limited to reading this article.
