12/17/22 Tournament

Tournament, Saturday, December 17, 2022, 9:30 am — 3:45 pm

Smith Middle School, 216 Addison Road Glastonbury, CT 06033 & Zoom

Sponsored by The English Speaking Union, Greenwich Branch

On behalf of Smith Middle School and Coach John Rook, the Connecticut Middle School Debate League invites you to the second tournament of the season.  Debaters who will compete should research the topic: This House believes that State Lotteries do more harm than good.

Please refer to the updated CTMSDL Handbook for information on our format and rules. Read about Novice & Open categories – coaches decide which category each team belongs in.  The top 5 Open teams and speakers will receive awards.  Novice and Open teams that go 3-0 will receive pins.

Coaches should register their debaters through tabroom.com.  Download our tabroom.com Instructions for more information.  On tabroom.com the event name is “ctmsdlDec17”.  There is no cap on the number of teams each school may enter.

Teams may compete virtually or in-person.  Please let Jen know by email if you have any virtual teams and if so, which ones are virtual.  ALL TEAMS MUST BE CHAPERONED.

Coaches should register one judge per every 2 teams.  Schools only bringing 1 team should register 1 judge. All judges will submit electronic ballots via Tabroom and some will judge virtual debaters on Zoom, so judges must bring laptops or other devices to the tournament.

Coaches should make sure their judges understand the information in the CTMSDL Handbook and our Judges’ Instructions.  We’ll hold a judges’ workshop at the tournament.
