On behalf of Seymour Middle School and Coach Harvey Catlin, The Connecticut Middle School Debate League invites you to our season-opening Novice Level Scrimmage and Open Level Tournament.
Novice and Open Level debaters will debate on both sides of the motion:
This House believes that zoos do more harm than good.
Observers are welcome.
Please review the July, 2019 version of the CTMSDL Handbook for information on the format and rules: https://ctmsdebate.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/CTMSDL-Handbook-July-2019.pdf It is up to coaches to decide which category is appropriate for each of their teams. Please read more on page 4 of the Handbook. This will be a qualifying tournament for Open Level Debaters.

There is no cap on the number of teams a school may enter. Coaches should also register one judge per every 2 teams entered. Coaches should make sure their judges understand the information in the attached Judges’ Instructions and the Handbook prior to the scrimmage.

Lunch | 1:00 – 1:30 |
Open Round 3, Novice Round 2 | 1:30 – 2:15 |
Final Round between top two Open Level teams | 2:30 – 3:15 |

Debaters may pack their lunches or buy tickets for pizza and lemonade when they arrive. Pizza will be $2 per slice and cans of lemonade will be $1 each. BYO water bottles. Coffee and lunch will be provided for judges. Questions or comments? Please email Jen Posner at jen.posner@ctmsdebate.org.
